Freda’s Fall: Management and Prevention of Falls

Related categories

One in three people aged 65 experiences a fall every year. Falls and resulting fractures significantly reduce older people’s independence and confidence, and increase their isolation.

This resource uses an extended interactive video case study to explore the roles of different healthcare professionals in falls management and prevention, including paramedics, occupational therapists, nurses, consultants, physiotherapists, care workers and GPs.  It was created by ALIGN, the Allied Health Professionals Innovative Learning Network for Falls Management.

The units range from 15 minutes to an hour to complete for a series of personalised certificates. They cover:

  • how nutrition, memory and medications can affect the risk of falling
  • recognising potential hazards in the home
  • conducting an assessment after a fall
  • practical interventions to reduce the risk of falling.
