Improving the recognition, diagnosis and management of bacterial meningitis in young infants.

This e-learning course (eTool) was developed by the Meningitis Research Foundation in collaboration with the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the study investigators at St George's and an expert at St Mary's. It is CPD accredited and endorsed by the RCPCH.

It is designed to help clinicians improve their assessment and management of young infants who present with possible bacterial meningitis, and provides an opportunity to learn from the real cases in the research study, using anonymised case histories presented in interactive question-and-answer format. The clinical management sections are in alignment with relevant NICE guidelines and direct links to applicable guidance are provided throughout.

The interactive content and final test should take approximately 90 minutes to complete, but does not need to be attempted in one go, as you can log out and back in again and re-start wherever you left off. The material includes:

  • 8 interactive sections
  • A video of parents’ experiences
  • Links to useful resources
  • A 15 minute test at the end of the course and certificate on successful completion
