Pre-Procedural Information for Children and Families

Children sometimes worry when they find out that they need to have a procedure under general anaesthetic. Children who understand what is going to happen feel calmer and more confident.

This interactive storybook tells the story of a 6-year old boy undergoing general anaesthesia to have some teeth taken out. It is beautifully illustrated and accompanied by a pamphlet for parents to explain how to use the storybook and why it may help their child.

This resource includes two versions of the storybook and a searchable glossary for quick access to all the child-friendly descriptions of typical hospital staff, places and medical procedures. The storybook was created in collaboration between the Dental Institute, King’s College London and the School of Psychology, University of Southampton.
