Spinal Cord Pathways

This interactive tutorial uses a realistic case study to explore the anatomy and function of the spinal cord pathways that transmit sensory and motor information to and from the brain.

It takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes to work through and will help users:

  • consolidate their knowledge of central nervous system anatomy
  • understand how different spinal cord pathways transmit mechanical, nociceptive and motor information
  • explain the symptoms of pain and loss of sensation presented in the case study.

This resource was developed by Dr Reginald Docherty, Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology, King’s College London with Andrew Cavers in the Virtual Campus and Technology Enhanced Learning Unit. It was designed for undergraduate medical students, but will be valuable to anyone aiming to develop their understanding of how the spinal cord pathways function.
