About this course

AI for Scientific Research is an asynchronous course focusing on the foundations of using artificial intelligence (AI) in scientific research, covering the responsible and appropriate use of AI in science, the practical applications of AI techniques and tools in conducting scientific research, and using AI to share scientific findings with a range of stakeholders.

This course comprises 3 parts.

Module 1: AI for Planning Scientific Research
• AI for scientific research and its responsible use
• AI for literature reviews/evidence synthesis
• AI for supporting research questions/hypotheses and study design

Module 2: AI for Doing Scientific Research
• AI use in methods and ethics
• AI for data collection
• Analysing data with AI

Module 3: AI for Sharing Research and Generating Impact
• AI in scientific writing
• Disseminating science using AI (public, policy)
• Creating impact with AI

Learning Objectives
By the end of this introductory course, you will be able to:
  • Identify the benefits, limitations, and risks of AI in scientific research  
  • Understand the key principles governing responsible AI use in scientific research
  • Recognise the ways in which AI can be implemented across the lifecycle of scientific research
  • Comprehend the AI tools and techniques that can be used to conduct scientific research
  • Understand how AI can support the sharing of scientific knowledge

This course is open access and asynchronous (you can complete it in your own time). At the end of this course, upon completion of all sections including activities, a certificate of completion will be awarded.
