South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS) RISE line management programme.

Module 3: Inclusion

Welcome to this module on inclusion, the third instalment of the South East London Integrated Care Service (SEL ICS) line management programme.

Building an inclusive environment can feel like a daunting task and one that often feels reduced to a tick box exercise. But in reality, it's fundamental to the success of any organisation, especially within the field of health and care. Managers have a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the performance and overall culture of their team; playing a critical role in creating an inclusive environment where every team member feels valued, respected and supported to contribute their best. By fostering inclusion, we can enhance team performance and improve patient care outcomes for South East London.

By the end of this module, you should be able to:
  • describe what inclusion means in the workplace and explain why it's important
  • describe some of the core principles that underpin multiple equality, diversity and inclusion strategies across health and care
  • define cultural intelligence and explain how to use it to bridge cultural gaps, promote diversity and enhance team cohesion
  • define unconscious bias and recognise how it can impact team interactions and lead to unfairness and inequality
  • apply practical tools and techniques to build an inclusive environment that supports the development and wellbeing of everyone.
This module should take you about 30 minutes to complete.
