South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS) RISE line management programme.

Module 1: Self-leadership

Welcome to this module on self-leadership, the first part of the South East London Integrated Care Service (SEL ICS) line management programme.

Self-leadership is the bedrock of effective line management. Mastering self-awareness, self-reflection and self-regulation can transform how you manage and inspire your team. Self-awareness means understanding your strengths and weaknesses and the impact of your actions on others. Self-reflection is the practice of regularly evaluating your decisions and experiences to learn and grow. Self-regulation involves managing your emotions and behaviours to build positive working relationships.

As healthcare professionals in South East London, these skills are key to leading effectively – equipping you to overcome challenges, develop resilience and foster a supportive workplace culture.

By the end of this module, you should be able to:
  • describe self-leadership and the key skills it requires, including self-awareness, self-reflection and self-regulation
  • identify your own strengths, weaknesses and values, and explain how these influence your line management interactions and decisions
  • describe why self-leadership is important to being an effective line manager in health and care organisations
  • apply practical tools and techniques to enhance your self-leadership skills, to help you develop as a line manager and build a positive work culture that supports wellbeing for you and your team.
  • evaluate your own self-leadership skills by applying self-assessment tools
This module should take you about 30 minutes to complete.
