About this course:
A good experimental design is the first step for a successful bioinformatics analyses, the second one is to understand how to record and organise data. Most life scientists (at any career stage) store data in spreadsheets, so this is the place that many research projects start and how data are delivered to the bioinformatician.

Welcome to the Innovation Scholars Program. Funded by UKRI, this program run by Kings College London offers flexible and modular training for health care professionals, researchers and industry partners. This training aims to upskill all in their ability to use and apply big data in their work and research. We hope you will find data and AI training that supports you within the program. 

By end of this course you will be able to:
  • Have a clear understanding of what Excel is
  • Give examples of when you might use Excel in your work/research
  • Define the basic terms as they relate to Excel (i.e. ribbon, workbook, worksheet, cell, etc)
  • Confidently apply Excel tools to data you use in your work/research
  • Identify when you require further training in Excel
  • Identify the limitations of Excel and when it is necessary to reserve to different tools

Who this training is for:
  • You are a beginner to using Excel or have experience but would like to use it more effectively
  • You work in health-related sector as either clinical, administrative or academic staff - for example as a nurse, health administrator, consultant, biomedical researcher, etc.
  • You have some knowledge of basic statistical terms and would like to apply them in Excel
  • You need to start recording data or using already recorded data for your current or future role
  • You require flexible learning format
