Neonatal Transport: a practical approach

khp1125c.jpg

Transferring patients is a common activity. Patients will be be moved around the hospital to access different resources, or sometimes transferred from one hospital to another.

It is therefore sometimes pragmatic that a neonatal unit may make their own arrangements to transfer a low-risk baby. It is in this context that a trainee doctor may be asked to accompany a baby on a transfer. However, this happens infrequently and most trainees have very little specific training for it, unless they have previously worked as a transport doctor.

The aim of this module is therefore to provide some practical advice on transferring a baby in a non-emergency setting.
